Nine years

Dsc_0003_3 Wednesday was our 9th anniversary. Joe brought me these really pretty flowers. They smell beautiful too, and make the whole kitchen smell great. We are going to dinner and a movie tonight or tomorrow night to celebrate. Can you believe it’s been nine years already?

A new pet…

I was thinking that maybe we needed a new pet around here. Because, you know, we really suffer a shortage of pets. And I was thinking as long as I’m getting a pet it should be one that can do tricks like fetch. Roll over. Make me breakfast in bed. Then I saw this:Phonebook2

Perfect! This is exactly what we need! Hey, it sounds like it will even be able to help Noah with his homework when he gets older. I can’t wait, I wonder how long it takes?

Lost in translation

More proof that what you say is not what they hear. Mom and Rachelle are my witnesses, the following actually happened…

Scene: Mom’s tiny living room. Noah gets the broom out and starts "sweeping". The end of the broom handle is swinging perilously close to lamps, tables, dogs, people’s heads, etc.

Me: No…Noah, no. No…no…no. NO, NO, NO! NONONONONONONONO!

Me: Noah! What did I just say?

Noah:  Yes!

Ick!!! Ack!!! Yuck!!! Blech!!!

Look what I just scraped off our house. It was in the entry way right outside the front door. It’s the beginning of a yellow jacket nest. Joe is so squeamish when it comes to bees/hornets/wasps that he made me do it. And I know he would have sooner locked me outside with an angry wasp than let me in if he thought it would have followed me. I know this because as he kept screaming in his girlie voice "don’t let it in!" as he was shoving me out the door and trying to shut it before I was half out.

And speaking of gross…stop reading if you are eating or don’t want to barf right now. Noah’s got a cold. Actually we all do. Last night, I was trying to get him to blow his nose. It was particularly, um, productive. I said "wow! that was a big one!" to which he replies excitedly and even hopefully "Was it green?"

More pictures…

Here are a few pictures I promised you earlier. These were taken with a disposable camera at Glenwood Adventure Park back during our camping trip in May. Noah absolutely loved riding the Alpine Coaster with Daddy. Joe said he had it wide open going as fast as it could go and Noah was saying "faster! faster!" There is a picture of him sitting on a mechanical bull, but don’t worry, it wasn’t on!

And then I finished the roll up while hiking on Spruce Mountain, right around the corner from us. Enjoy!

Camping Trip

We just got back from a camping trip with Dave and Lisa. We went for three nights to Cutty’s Resort Hayden Creek. It’s in Coaldale, CO about 30 miles past Canyon City. They have a lot of activities, like indoor and outdoor swimming pools (although it was too cold for the outdoor pool). They have basket ball and tennis courts, shuffle board and minigolf. The swimming pool was in good shape but most everything else is in disrepair. The new owners bought it last year and are attempting to restore everything. The night before we arrived the was a terrible windstorm across the whole state. They were reporting winds up to 100 miles per hour all over the place. Cutty’s took a bad hit, losing 53 trees, some of them two feet in diameter. Some snapped in half, some some fallen over with their roots in the air. And there were broken branches everywhere. We almost weren’t able to go at all because a tree had fallen and blocked the entrance. They got it sawed up and moved by the time we got there though.

I think it will be really nice if/when they get it all fixed up. We are considering buying a membership there. If we do, the will credit us for this last trip, then we would have to go two more times to break even and three times to start getting the benefit of it. We’ll see. I think we would basically be leasing a spot there. We could pick any spot we wanted and it would be there for us whenever we wanted to go.

Noah had a blast. He only slept from 12:30 to 5 AM the first night so that put a huge crimp in our first day. But after that the sleeping got better. Unfortunately, the swimming pool really flared up his eczema. This was the view from right behind the RV. We saw a few deer too.

Noah loved the minigolf. After about the second hole he gave up on the club and just had fun rolling the ball through the obstacles. Then we moved on to tennis. Come to think of it, he plays tennis much like he plays minigolf.

There was a little playground with a tiny town and a swing set. He was not in the mood for pictures just then so I could only get candid shots. But he really had a blast playing "store". He sold us pinecones, tree branches and rocks. Joe needs to teach him to be a better business man though because most of the time he would hand you your item and then pay you for it. Or, if you "paid" him with your leaves the money went out the back window. And later, back in the camper he was trying to fill daddy’s shoes.

And here are the rest of the photos. We had a good time. The weather was cool, a tiny bit of rain, but nothing major. We’ll keep you updated if we get a membership.

The Life and Times of the mother of a toddler…

Scene: The bathroom, me trying to go potty. In peace. Ain’t happenin’.

Noah: (looking over a toy) Where is the thingy part?

Me: What is a thingy part?

Noah: I don’t know.

Me: Well, I don’t know either.

Noah: But where is it?

Me: ……….

Noah: Are you going poo-poo? Let me see…

Noah: (pulls off a scrap of TP about the size of a quarter) Let me clean your butt…

Me: No thank you, I can clean it.

Noah: Here’s some toilet paper for you (hands me the quarter sized peice of tissue).
